Terms of Service

These terms explain the rules for using What Phone. By opening the site you agree to them.

Last updated: 1 November 2026

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you”) and What Phone (“we”, “us”, “our”), the operator of whatphone.io (the “Service”). By accessing, browsing or using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service.

2. The service

What Phone is a free, browser-based tool that helps you identify the phone you are using and view its technical specifications. Detection runs locally in your browser, as described in our Privacy Policy.

The Service is provided for general informational purposes. It is not a professional diagnostic, repair, security or forensic tool, and it should not be relied upon as one.

3. Eligibility

You may use the Service only if you can form a binding contract with us and are not barred from doing so under applicable law. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not infringe the rights of, or restrict or inhibit the use of the Service by, anyone else. In particular, you must not:

  • Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers, or any connected systems or networks.
  • Introduce malware, viruses, or any other harmful code.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including through automated scraping, denial-of-service attempts, or excessive request volumes.
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble any part of the Service, except where permitted by law.
  • Remove, obscure or alter any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notices.
  • Use the Service to build a competing product or to misrepresent the Service’s results as your own.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.

We reserve the right to restrict or block access to anyone who breaches these rules.

5. Accuracy of results

What Phone relies on information that your browser and operating system make available to web pages. Some browsers, privacy settings and operating systems intentionally hide or limit that information. As a result:

  • Results may be incomplete, approximate or marked as unknown.
  • Some devices may be reported as a group of possible models rather than a single exact model.
  • Specifications may differ from your exact hardware revision.

You should verify important information using your device’s own settings (for example, Settings → About phone) or the manufacturer’s documentation. We are not responsible for decisions you make based on the Service’s output.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, code, text, graphics, logos and the way they are arranged, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership rights to you.

You may view, download and print pages from the Service for your own personal, non-commercial use, provided you keep all proprietary notices intact. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, publicly display or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our prior written permission.

“What Phone” and the What Phone logo are trademarks of the operator. Other brand names, model names and logos mentioned on the site (such as Samsung, Apple, Google and others) are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification purposes only. Their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.

7. Your content

If you use features that let you enter information (such as the manual model picker), you are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter. That information is stored only on your own device, as described in our Privacy Policy, and we do not claim any rights over it.

If you contact us by email, you grant us permission to use your message solely to respond to you and to improve the Service.

8. Third-party links

The Service may link to third-party websites or services that we do not control. Those links are provided for convenience only. We are not responsible for the content, policies or practices of any third-party site, and you access them at your own risk.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with or without notice, and without liability to you.

We may also update, improve or remove features of the Service from time to time. These Terms will continue to apply to any updated version unless we say otherwise.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, title and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that any information obtained through it will be accurate or reliable. Your use of the Service is at your sole risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we and our founder, developer and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one US dollar (USD $1).

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless What Phone and its founder, developer and contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or if your use poses a risk to the Service or to other users. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnity) will survive.

14. Governing law

These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator resides, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You and we agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there, except that either party may seek relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property rights.

If you are a consumer resident in a jurisdiction that gives you mandatory rights, nothing in these Terms affects those rights.

15. General provisions

Entire agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and Disclaimer, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of that right or provision.

Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms without restriction.

No third-party beneficiaries

These Terms do not create any rights for any third party.

16. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of the page shows the current version. Your continued use of the Service after any change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Service.
