Disclaimer
What Phone is a helpful tool, not an official source. Here is what its results can and cannot tell you.
Last updated: 1 November 2026
1. General information only
The information provided by What Phone (whatphone.io) is for general informational and educational purposes only. It is intended to help you identify your phone model and understand its specifications. It is not intended as a substitute for any official or professional source of information.
While we try to keep our detection data accurate and up to date, we make no representation or warranty of any kind, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, adequacy, validity, reliability or completeness of any information on the site.
2. How detection works
What Phone does not have direct access to your device’s hardware or firmware. Instead, it reads values that your browser and operating system expose to web pages, including:
- Your user agent string, from which brand, model and operating system are inferred.
- Screen resolution, pixel ratio, colour depth and refresh rate.
- Logical CPU core count and approximate device memory.
- The GPU renderer and vendor string.
- Battery and network status, where the browser supports it.
Detection is performed entirely in your browser. We do not query any database of your personal device, and no data is uploaded to our servers.
3. Accuracy not guaranteed
The results shown by What Phone may be incomplete, approximate or marked as unknown. This can happen for several reasons:
- Browsers hide information. Some browsers, privacy modes and operating system versions intentionally limit or spoof the data available to web pages.
- Shared model groups. Apple, in particular, does not share the exact iPhone model with websites. Several iPhones share the same screen size, so the tool may list a group of matching models rather than one exact model.
- Model codes vs. marketing names. Devices are sometimes reported by their internal model code (for example, “SM-S918B”) rather than their marketing name (“Galaxy S23 Ultra”).
- Hardware revisions. Manufacturers sometimes ship the same model name with different internals across regions or production runs.
- Out-of-date or unknown devices. New or uncommon devices may not be recognised at all.
Always verify important information yourself. The most reliable source is your device’s own settings, typically under Settings → About phone (Android) or Settings → General → About (iPhone), or the manufacturer’s official documentation.
4. Not an official source
What Phone is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any device manufacturer, including Samsung, Apple, Google, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, vivo, realme, Motorola, Nokia, Huawei, Honor or any other brand mentioned on the site.
Any product names, model names, logos, images or trademarks that appear on the site are used solely for identification and descriptive purposes, and remain the property of their respective owners.
5. Not professional advice
Nothing on What Phone constitutes professional advice of any kind. In particular, the Service does not provide:
- Technical, repair or diagnostic advice. If your device is malfunctioning, contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair professional.
- Legal, security or forensic advice. Do not rely on What Phone to determine ownership, authenticity, tampering or the security of a device.
- Purchasing or financial advice. Use independent sources to verify specifications before buying a device, accessory or service.
- Medical, safety or emergency advice. Never rely on this site in an emergency or in a situation where inaccurate information could cause harm.
You should consult an appropriate professional before making any decision based on information from this site.
6. Specifications may differ
Specifications shown by What Phone — including screen size and resolution, RAM, CPU core count, GPU and battery information — are approximate. Values reported by the browser may differ from the manufacturer’s official specifications, and specifications can change between firmware versions and regional variants.
Where official figures are important to you, please refer to the manufacturer’s datasheet or product page.
7. Trademarks and brand names
“What Phone” and the What Phone logo are trademarks of the operator. All other trademarks, service marks, product names, model names and company names mentioned on the site are the property of their respective owners.
Reference to any brand, product or model does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or sponsorship of What Phone by that brand or owner.
